Article of the Week: 15 Feb

Congratulations to adriana lopez, winner of Article of the Week (15 Feb)!
This article criticizes the economic stability plan announced last week by Tim Geithner. It describes markets dislike of the lack of detail in the plan and the hesitation to participate in a market for toxic MSB’s as well as making investments in banks that may or may not be nationalized in the near future.

This is a great opinion article about the financial crisis written by columnist David Brooks of the New York Times. In the article, Brooks outlines the processes that Treasury Secretary Geithner will attempt to implement with his financial recovery package. Brooks believes that Geithner's plan is both disciplined and fast-acting enough to ease the current credit crisis that US banks are experiencing. He believes that unlike the stimulus bill, the Financial Recovey program will be an effective use of taxpayer dollars.

This article goes hand in hand with the article discussed from the Washington Post in todays lecture. The article builds on todays lecture and answers many of the questions posed today. Will a "stress test" winnow out the bad banks? Will private money get in the game? Will they get the price rite on troubled assets? THIS IS A MUST READ.

This is a PDF of what congress has agreed to spend the stimulus package on. This is very interesting. Some things could be questionable to how they really help the economy.

This is an interesting article discussing inflation adjusted pricing. Mike Mofatt talks about how inflation isn't something that is easily measured and it's very relative. A great example in the article comparing PS 3 and Colecovision game system.

This is an article from the wall street journal. It samples several economist from different companies on their prospects for 2009. Their outcome is bearish saying the stimulus will help but a decline is still here for the next year or atleast till 3rd quarter.

This article discusses the lack of a "road map plan" presented by Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner, leaving many people questioning. Though he did mention that his plan calls for banks to undergo a "stress test" he still left the nation looking for more details.
